EMERGENCY SYSTEMS [ Home > Systems > Electric Emergencies ]

Must be understood as Ortronic® system the group of apparatuses which compose an installation for an specific application.

An Emergency system is a group of devices connected between them that work under the orders of several synchronized microprocessors, which are the heart of the system.

The Ortronic® emergency systems solve the problems derived by the electrical blackouts, supplying electricity permanently, without blackouts, and saving electrical energy, in a proportion over 50% compared to any other known system.

The devices which constitute an emergency system are:
    1. Converter: Is a device which converts or transforms the electrical energy from DC into     AC.

    2. Charger: Is a device which controls and regulates the electrical storage batteries     bank charging process.

    3. Storage Batteries Bank: The electrical energy is measured in kiloWatts-hour (kWh),     then, the storage batteries bank stores kWh.

1kWh is the quantity of energy generated by a 1 kiloWatt generator (1kW), working for     one hour.

It also could be defined as the quantity of energy consumed by a 1kW electrical device     during one hour of operation.

3.1 A storage batteries bank is compound by a group of special batteries, with the        necessary capacity for keeping the electrical installation working during the        blackout hours.

3.2 The same quantity of kWh can be stored in a low number of high capacity batteries        or in a higher number of lower capacity batteries.

Higher number of batteries, series connected, means to have a higher DC voltage,        also lower currents, for the same amount of connected power and lower losses due        to the Joule effect.

3.3 The batteries are components with a limited life, and it depends on the number of        discharges, the depth of the discharge and the ambient temperature.

In these following graphics, which appear by courtesy of Hoppecke brand, is        quantified the useful life of the batteries, due to the depth of the discharge (upper        graphic) and ambient temperature (lower graphic).

For storage batteries bank until 300 kWh, Ortronic® recommends AGM batteries,        which are the most profitable ones and they are also the ones which are better        adapted to the Ortronic® systems.

For the storage of large amounts of electrical energy, up to several hundreds of        MegaWatt-hour, Ortronic® recommends the new Vanadium Redox type batteries,        with an expected life over 50 years and many other advantages.

    4. Ortronic® Battery Chargers:

4.1 The only electrical energy that can be stored in batteries is the DC one, then, the first        operation that must be done is to transform the AC electrical energy into DC for        storing.

The second operation is to control and regulate the batteries charging process.

Ortronic® battery chargers accept either single phase or three phase input, and they        accomplish the following tasks:

           a. Regulate the charging process voltage and current.

           b. Charge the power batteries (electrical warehouse) and also the independent             battery to feed the electronic of the system.

           c. Automatically start the electric generator set when the batteries need to be             charged, in the installations that use a private electric generator set.

           d. Automatically stop the electric generator set when the batteries are fully charged.

4.2 During the batteries charging and discharging processes there are inevitable energy        losses, due to the fact that the voltage level during the batteries charging process is        higher than during the discharging process so, the total power of the charging        process is higher than the total power of the discharging process or, in other words:        the total quantity of energy used during the batteries charging process is higher than        the total quantity of energy given back from the batteries during the discharging        process.

Besides this above mentioned energy losses, there are other kinds of energy        losses as the ones due to the battery auto-discharge and the ones due to the battery        internal resistance. Both of them depend on the quality of the battery.

Total energy losses in the storage batteries bank varies from 30% to 40%,        depending on their quality.

    5 Ortronic® Converters:

The Ortronic® converters have been designed and developed by Juan Ortigosa García, and they are based in a new technology, patented as procedure patent, which allows to achieve these following advantages:

5.1 It is the unique known technology that recoveries the reactive energy.

5.2 Compared to any other converters that can be found in the market, they save over        50% of the needed energy for obtaining the same amount of work or, in other words:        using the same quantity of energy, they produce an amount of work over 1,5 times        higher than the produced by any other converter that can be found in the market.

5.3 They don’t use transformers neither inductive elements (filters).

5.4 They increase the efficiency of electrical motors, single phase and three phase        ones, with small power loads or variable loads.

5.5 They eliminate the brake forces that appear in the three phase motors due to the        angle intersection between phases, see Ortronic® Technology, paragraph Ortronic®        Advantages, point 5.

5.6 They regulate the TORQUE with no variations in the motor speed, and they also        regulate the speed of the motor with no variations in the TORQUE, in a manual or        automatic way. This point demonstrates that Ortronic® converters are the ideal ones        for the electrical vehicles.

5.7 They multiply the useful energy with inductive loads connected at their output.

5.8 Their efficiency is over 97%, with any type and power of the load connected, without        taking under consideration the recovery of the reactive energy, which is not a matter        of efficiency.

5.9 The electric generators set, with an Ortronic® converter connected at their output, will        always supply an active power, in kW, equal to its maximum power in kVA,        independently of the power factor of the loads.

    5.10 No harmonics are generated.

ORTRONIC® EMERGENCY SYSTEMS

The Ortronic® emergency systems are the unique ones in the market which save energy, in a proportion over 50% compared to any other known system.

The most important applications are:
6.1 The communications shelters and the cell phone repeaters.

In this application, the 70% of the total operating total cost is the energy and savings        over 50% are very important for the companies in this sector.

6.2 Blackouts at: Bank offices, Hospitals, Offices, Commerce, Houses, Bars, Cafes,        Pubs, Restaurants, Subways, Elevators, etc.

6.3 Insufficient electrical power from the electrical company in peak hours        consumption.

In several tourist zones, with very high electricity consumptions during a determined        number of hours per day, there is not enough electrical power from the electrical        company for attending the total power demanded by the clients during those hours.

In these cases, the Ortronic® systems with the new Vanadium Redox batteries,        solve the problem of insufficient power without increasing the power of the electric        generator.

The Vanadium Redox batteries can store up to several hundreds of MegaWatt-hour,        and their expected life is over 50 years.

The same problem and the same solution can be found in small rural villages,        where the electrical distribution lines are very old and have became small for        tolerating the increasing of the consumption demanded in peak hours.

    7 Ortronic® Emergency Systems advantages:

7.1 The Ortronic® electrical emergency systems have all the advantages of the Ortronic®        converters and battery chargers, although all the advantages are not applicable in all        the applications and not all the converters are manufactured for including all the        advantages.

In fact, the unique application that can utilize all the Ortronic® converters advantages        are the electrical vehicles.

7.2 The Ortronic® emergency systems, besides of resolving the problems due to        blackouts, save energy, in a proportion over 50% compared to any other system that        can be found in the market.

7.3 They don’t use transformers, nor for charging the batteries, neither at the converter        output.

7.4 They are the only ones that recover the reactive energy.

7.5 They can be installed ONLINE or OFFLINE, choosing the most appropriate solution        depending on the technical characteristics of the client installation.

7.6 They don’t have any competitors, nor in benefits, neither in price.

7.7 In regular houses, where the most appropriate Ortronic® emergency system is the        ONLINE one, the user doesn’t notice the blackouts.

7.8 They are intelligent systems, with a diary and automatic adjustment.

7.9 For blackouts length until 24 hours they don’t use any private electric generator set.
